Participate

Volunteer for the Blind Welfare Association

If you have some spare time why not consider becoming a volunteer.  Blind Welfare volunteers are an invaluable part of our Association sharing their time and skills.  Being a volunteer is a great opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills and use your knowledge and experience for a cause.  Most importantly any time you can volunteer you will be helping South Australian’s who are blind or vision impaired.

Some of the areas at BWA in which you can choose to help out are:

Social Centre

1 Cameron Avenue Gilles Plains

Craft Assistants – to provide support and assistance to members during craft activities; this does not necessarily require you to have craft skills.
(Wednesday and/or Friday mornings)

Activity Assistants – to assist members at the social centre on Monday and Thursday with friendship club, includes entertainment, games, guest speakers and outings.

Transport – to assist primarily with transportation of members to and from our Social Centre. BWA currently has a 12 seat mini van and a 5 seat station wagon for this purpose. Drivers are occasionally asked to use their own vehicles and can be reimbursed for kms travelled.

Kitchen – preparing and serving tea / coffee / light meals.
(Monday to Friday )

Garden Maintenance – tending the grounds and gardens of the Social Centre and/or assisting BWA members in their own homes.

Social Support

Community Based

Friendly Visiting – volunteers are matched with members needing in-home visiting, hospital visits, shopping, social outings, transport, reading, correspondence and social chit chat.

Fundraising

You really can turn almost anything you enjoy doing into a fundraiser.  If you are hosting a dinner party, why not consider running a small raffle on the night or getting people to make a small donation.  If you are entering a cycling or running event boost your incentive to do something  by getting people to sponsor you. In lieu of gifts for celebrations, ask people to make a donation to Blind Welfare.   Just give us a call with your idea.
